Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an orthoester useful as an intermediate of medicine, a reagent, etc. in high yield with reduced load of the waste water disposal, by reacting an organic nitrile with an alcohol and hydrogen chloride, adding ammonia to adjust the pH of the reaction product, and alcoholyzing the product.
CONSTITUTION: An organic nitrile I (R1 is alkyl, cycloakyl, etc.), e.g. acetonitrile, etc., is reacted with an alcohol II (R2 is alkyl, alkenyl, etc.), e.g. methanol, etc., and hydrogen chloride to give an imide ether hydrochloric acid salt III. Ammonia is added to the product III to adjust the pH of the reaction system to 1.0W3.5.
