Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent generation of microwave discharge and enhance microwave melting efficiency, in microwave melting of unburned matter-contg. incineration ash, by adding an element easy to bond to carbon to the unburned matter.
CONSTITUTION: A sample of powdered incineration ash contg. unburned matter of a substance to be treated is collected to measure the amt. of the unburned matter. On the basis of this amt. powder of Fe, Ca, Si, B or the like easy to bond to carbon is added to the ash and mixed. Mixt. 4 is charged into resonance type melting furnace 3 with screw feeder 6, and microwaves are introduced from supply inlet 1 to allow furnace 3 to perfectly resonate with matching mechanism 2. By a dielectric loss due to a strong microwave electric field produced in furnace 3 the ash is melted to form a glassy substance. Part of the unburned matter is burned to CO2, yet a sort of amorphous carbon formed by insufficient supply of air floats on the glassy melt surface and causes microwave discahrge. At this time, the carbon is turned into Fe3C, CaC2, SiC, B4C or the like with the above additive and surrounded by the glassy melt to prevent generation of microwave discharge.
