Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent air flow from an idle air cylinder to an air exhausting system and also to keep a media device from being overcooled, in an engine in which a part of cylinders is kept idle at the time when the engine is at light load, by closing either an intake valve or an exhausting valve of an idle cylinder and opening the other valve.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 11 is brought into contact with the other end of a locker arm 10, which opens and closes an air-intake valve 1, through a pivot 8. In a cylinder 12 where the piston 11 slides, a top and a bottom oil-pressure (or hydraulic) chambers 13 and 14 are formed by the piston 11 and, at the same time, fuel for a fuel tank 17 is introduced into the both chambers 13 and 14 through a pump 18. And on the top of the passage, a switching valve 15 to be driven by an air cylinder number control circuit 16 is arranged, whereby switching of fuel between the chambers 13 and 14 is operated. And when the air-intake valve is set to OPEN position, the air-exhausting valve becomes in a condition of CLOSE.
