Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance characteristics of coil through suppression of both axially compressive and radially expansive electromechanic forces by providing the outer periphery of superconductive winding with a reinforcement outer cylinder made of nonmagnetic material. CONSTITUTION:The spool 1 having flanges at both ends is wound with superconductive winding 2, on which a thin epoxy-impregnated glass tape 5 is wound. The tape 5 is effective in absorbing fine uneveness on the surface of the winding 2 and provides a good contact with a reinforcing outer cylinder 4 to be later installed. The taped spool is inserted into and engaged with the outer cylinder 5 of non- magnetic material having the internal surface machined to a good fit with the glass tape 5 of the spool 1. The structure prevents the winding 2 from deformation due to electromechanic force and allows the exciting current close to the critical value to pass, thereby enhancing its characteristics.
