Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible multicolor recording with one tone of printing process by charging the charges of the polarity opposite from that of the multiple carriers of a photoconductive layer on a recording medium then performing charging of the same polarity and performing exposure of positive images at this same instant thence performing charging of opposite polarity and performing exposure of negative images at this same instant.

CONSTITUTION: A charger 12 is maintained at a negative potential with respect to a conductive substrate 8 by a DC power source 19 to induce negative charges on the surface of an insulation layer 10. Next, a positive potential is maintained by the DC power source 19 and while a recording medium 3 is being charged, it is subjected to positive image exposure at the same instant. When the light falls onto the region P of the recording medium 3, the resistance value of that place decreases and positive charges are induced only in the surface of the region P. In the resion Q where no light falls, the resistance value is high and therefore negative charges simply decrease. Next, when the recording medium 3 is subjected to negative exposure while it is being charged with negative polarity with a DC power source 21 followed by radiation of the region R, then negative charges are induced in that surface and the region S where no light is radiated also goes slowly to the negative direction. For example, the color coded visible images are obtainable at one time by using the red toner having been charged negative and the black toner having been charged positive.
