Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the fatigue strength of high hardness austenitic stainless steel contg. Mn, by subjecting the stainless steel to solution treatment, then to cold working. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic stainless steel contg. 0.15-0.30%C, 6-10% Mn, 3-5% Ni, 6-20% Cr, <0.10% N is subjected to solution treatment at about 1050 deg.C. Then it is subjected to cold working such as drawing, rolling at a working ratio of 30-60%, reduction of area 70-80% in order to increase the tensile strength thereof to not lower than 120-200kg/mm<2>. These heat treatment of the stainless steel improves the fatigue strength, making it possible to manufacture stainless steel having suitable characteristics as spring material.
