Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce number of resistances for making a circuit small and also for lowering the production cost, by utilizing a resistance for limiting inrush current to a smoothing capacitor of a regular converter for both the purposes of a regenerative current consuming resistance and a DC damping current limiting resistance.
CONSTITUTION: At the time when an AC power source 1 was turned on and a regular converter 2 started operating, inrush current to a smoothing capacitor 27 is made to pass through resistances 41 and 42 by leaving a contact r1 in OFF position for a fixed period of time. The contact r1 is closed upon elapsing of a fixed period of time after turning on of the power source. By rising of terminal voltage of a capacitor 28 due to charging of regenerative current, a regenerative current control circuit 43 turns on a transistor 44, and the regenerative current is consumed through the resistances 41 and 42. In the case of DC damping, if contacts r21 through r23 are left opened and contacts r31 and r32 are left closed, DC damping can be applied to an electric motor 4 through the regular converter 2, the resistances 41 and 42, a damping circuit 45 and the contacts r31 and r32.
