Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the pipe length (elongation) after the elongation pass to be identical to the aim value, by regulating the rolls' peripheral speed ratio so as to specify the sectional area of pipe after undergoing the actual rolling pass, depending on the relation between the rolls' peripheral speed ratio during the rolling pass and the mean sectional area of pipe after the rolling pass, that is the relation previously determined for each mandrel. CONSTITUTION:The experimental rolling pass is previously executed with each mandrel by the elongator under the same rolling condition as the actual rolling pass in order to specify the relation between the peripheral speed ratio X and the mean sectional area A obtained by the roll No.1 of the final stand as shown by the full line. Even if different mandrels are employed, the inclination DELTAA/DELTAXn becomes constant approximately as shown by the broken line. During the actual rolling pass, the mean sectional area A1 after the elongation pass to obtain the aim elongation l1 is computed according to following formular depending on the actually measured weight W1 of the pipe blank. A=W/lrho (in which W is the weight of the pipe blank and rho is its specific gravity). After that, the peripheral speed ratio Xn1 corresponding to the sectional area A1 is obtained depending on above relation. The r.p.m. of rolls of each stand is controlled so as to execute the actual rolling pass at this rolls' peripheral speed ratio Xn1.
