Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently suppress the variance in the length or wall thickness of a pipe by setting and controlling roll gaps and roll peripheral speeds based on the average diameter of a mandrel bar and the weight of a material to be rolled in a continous elongator. CONSTITUTION:A blank pipe 1 having the wall thickness of a round ingot pierced with a piercer is passed therein with a mandrel bar 2, and in this state it is passed through the pairing rolling rolls 31a-38a in respective stands 31-38 of mandrel mills. It is then rolled by the rolling rolls 31a-38a which are set and controlled of their roll gaps and roll peripheral speeds by a control part NC. In this case, the weight of a round ingot which is a material for the pipe 1 is measured by a known method prior to the piercing with the piercer. Also, the diameter of the mandrel bar 2 is actually measured and its average diameter is obtained prior to the insertion into the blank pipe. Since the diameter of the bar 2 changes with abrasion, it is actually measured at every use or is empirically determined based on use hystories.
