Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of thickness of the rolled sheet, by continuously grasping the plastic characteristic of a material to be rolled over all its length during the rolling work, and by utilizing this plastic characteristic in determining the gain of the thickness control.
CONSTITUTION: The work roll gap S is forcibly changed for imparting a thickness variation to a material to be rolled; the relation between this thickness variation and the change of the roll gap is given by Equation, from which the longitudinal distribution of the modulus of plasticity (m) of the material is grasped. In the said Equation, ΔS is for the corrected amount of the roll gap S, ΔH is for the variation of the feed-in side sheet thickness H, M is for the roll's modulus of elasticity, and (m) is for the modulus of plasticity of the material to be rolled. The longitudinal distribution of the modulus of plasticity (m) of the material, obtained by the said procedure, is utilized in controlling the sheet thickness. As a result, the gain M/m of the thickness control is determined with a good accuracy so that the performance of the thickness control is improved.
