Abstract

PURPOSE:To constantly fix hot steel tension between the 1st and 2nd rolling mills and to improve dimension accuracies, by making an arrangement that the speed of revolution of the 1st rolling mill of a finishing block mill can be increased or reduced against rolling mills on and after the 2nd. CONSTITUTION:A differential gear 13 is installed between rolling mills 1 and 2 and it is arranged that the speed of revolution of the rolling mill 1 can be increased or reduced against rolling mills on and after the 2nd 2. The width of hot steel is measured with a measuring device 17 located at the outlet of the rolling mill 2 and the measured value is compared with a reference value previously inputted into a setting device 16 by an arithmetic control device 17 and the difference is operated by the device 17. When the measured value is the same as the reference value, a submotor 14 does not change rotational speed and the differential gear 13 also does not change its speed ratio, and then, the tension between the rolling mills 1 and 2 is maintained at a constant level. However, when the dimension of the hot steel becomes larger, the measured value of the measuring device 15 is larger than the reference value, and the speed ratio of the differential gear 15 is increased against the submotor 14. Moreover, the tension is increased by reducing the speed of revolution of the rolling mill 1 against rolling mills on and after the 2nd 2, and the width of the hot steel is reduced to the reference value. Thus the width of wire rods is maintained at a constant value by performing this control continuously.
