PURPOSE:To improve the thickness accuracy of the rolled material possessing the longitudinal thickness variation as compared with the conventional method, by installing the rolled material's traveling distance measuring device and the dummy load arithmetic unit, and by inputting the variation of the dummy load into the automatic sheet thickness controller. CONSTITUTION:When the material 10 is bitten into the mill 12, the reference load FL detected by the rolling load detector 20 is memorized by the memory 22; after the sheet is bitten into the mill 12, the controller 24 controls the roll gap according to the actual rolling load F being successively inputted, similarly to the conventional method; the required longitudinal thickness variation is operated by the arithmetic unit 32 according to the exit side sheet thickness function determined by the traveling distance of the sheet obtained by the distance measuring device 30 at an arbitrany timing and by the externally installed setter 26; the dummy load variation DELTAF2 for giving above operated required longitudinal thickness variation is inputted through the adder 34 into the controller 24 overlapping with above stated actual rolling load F. According to this method, the rolled product possessing the specified shape with longitudinal thickness variation corresponding to the exit side sheet thickness function is surely manufactured.
