Abstract

PURPOSE: The stainless steel powder of improved sintering charcteristic obtainable by adding the specific amount of B to the stainless steel of the specified composition and powdering the same by a water spraying method.
CONSTITUTION: The stainless steel containing C; 0.10% or under, Si; 0.30W4.0%, Mn; 1.0% or under, Ni; 2.0W22.0%, Cr; 10.0W25.0%, etc. and B; 0.002W0.05% is melted. From this molten metal, stainless steel powder is produced by a water spraying method. Although the surfaces of this stainless steel powder are covered with oxides, they become the compounds of a low melting point comprising combining of SiO2 and B2O3 owing to the interposition of B. Hence, making the sintering fusion between powders by remaining the powder and grain boundaries is obviated in the sintering process and the impact resistance and corrosion resistance of product sintered body are improved.
