Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish the highly accurate measurements with the use of a simple construction by generating standing waves within a magnetic strain line so that the strain distribution may be detected.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic strain line 1, which is made of a line-shaped magnetic strain material, is equipped at its both ends with a driving means 2 such as a coil or a piezomagnetic element and receiving means 3. These two means 2 and 3 are connected through a band-pass filter 4 and an amplifier 5, and detecting means 6 is made movable along the line 1. Thus, if a start signal is fed to the amplifier 5 so that driving signals are fed to the driving means 2, ultrasonic relay waves are generated at one end of the line 1 are transmitted to the other end. The waves are detected by the receiving means 3 and positively fed back to the amplifier 5. Then, the detecting means 6 is moved along the line 1 in accordance with the mechanical strain to be detected, and the frequency distribution of the strain in the line is detected by the reverse magnetic strain effect. Thus, the position is located by counting the output pulse siganls from the detecting means 6.
