Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform position detection highly accurately with a simple constitution by receiving the pulse signals propagating in an elastic delay line with a receiving means moving along the delay line according to displacements and controlling self- oscillation frequencies.
CONSTITUTION: When the output of an oscillator OS is applied to an exciting means 2 such as of piezoelectric element or the like, the means 2 generates a pulse signal. This signal propagates in a linear delay line 1 such as glass, metal or the like and is detected with a receiving means 3 such as of piezoelectroc element or the like moving in correspondence to displacements along the wire 1. The detection current is then fed back to cause the oscillator OS to make automatic oscillation. Hence, the pulse signal period outputted by the means 2 changes according to the positions corresponding to the displacements of the means 3. Arrangement is so made that the pulse periods are counted with a counter CV. Thus the simple constitution enables the highly accurate displacement position detection to be performed stably for a long period of time.
