Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable DC of small ripple rates to be obtained with a simple constitution by respectively parallel connecting the two SCRs and two reactors which are series-connected on their same polarity side to both side terminals of the secondary winding of a transformer and connecting welding load to the connecting point of the SCR and reactor.
CONSTITUTION: When output terminal (a) is plus, terminal (b) is minus and an SCR 2b is conducting, then current flows through terminal (a) → reactor 6a → base metal 5 → arc 4 → welding torch 3 → SCR 2b → terminal (b). As the current begins to decrease, an induced voltage which forward biases the SCR 2a is generated through the arc 4 in the reactor 6a and tries to continue to flow the current in the same direction even after the polarity inversion of the terminals (a), (b). Here, when a gate signal enters, the SCR 2a is forward biased and therefore goes ON and the SCR 2b goes OFF. At this time, the current abruptly inverts its polality, thus the DC of small ripple rates may be obtained.
