Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform flash welding of a ring-shaped body to be welded without flowing unnecessary shunt current, by providing an electromagnetic induction coil so that DC welding current will flow through the both to be welded.
CONSTITUTION: Both terminals of welding point 2 of ring-shaped body 1 to be welded are clamped by a couple of electrodes 3 and body 1 is wound with electromagnetic induction coil 8. As AC current is supplied across coil 8, current is induced across body 1 through electromagnetic mutual induction. As the interval between electrodes 3 is narrowed by electrode moving device 5, a flash is generated to perform welding. At this time, the welding current flowing as shown by arrow 9 is small and never overheats the body. After the welding is completed and a loop is formed, large current flows, and consequently a heat treatment of body 1 can be performed with this large current.
