Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce spatter and sustain arc stably by series-inserting the welding reactor connected with an impedance at both ends of the control winding to a welding current output circuit.
CONSTITUTION: When a consumable electrode 4 shortecircuits to base metal 5 in the shortcircuit transfer region of DC arc welding using consumable electrode, the shortcircuit current shows sharp rise owing to the action of a reactor 6 and resistance (impedance) 7, thereby easing the generation of arc. When it comes to the large current region of the shortcircuit current, the inductance of the reactor 6 increases and therefore the peak value of the shortcircuit current does not become large. Further, the current value flowing in control winding 6-b may be increased or decreased depending upon the number of turns of the control winding 6-b and the resistance value of the resistance 7 connected in series to the winding 6-b, by which the magnetic effect that the winding 6-b gives upon the main winding 6-a, i.e., the rising sharpness and peak value of the shortcircuit current waveform may be selected as desired.
