Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable stable arc to be obtained with a simple constitution by series connecting welding load and two reactors to the secondary side of a transformer and parallel connecting SCRs to both ends of the respective reactors thereby making the current supplying directions of the two SCRs with respect to the welding load opposite.
CONSTITUTION: When the output terminal (a) of the secondary winding of a welding transformer 1 is + and (b) is - and when an SCR 2a is conducting, current flows in the order of the terminal (a), SCR 2a, welding torch 3, arc 4, base metal 5, reactor 6b, terminal (b). When the current begins to decrease, an induced voltage which forward biases the SCR 2b is generated in the reactor 6b and tries to continue to flow the current in te same direction even after the polarity inversion of the terminals (a), (b). Here, the SCR 2b goes ON and the SCR 2a OFF when a gate signal is inputted. The current abruptly inverts its polarity, thus the welding current close to square waves and good commutation may be obtained.
