Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound (sulpiride) useful as a remedy for ulcer, easily and economically, by hydrolyzing a specific, pharmacologically active compound, thereby converting the sulfonyl group to aminosulfonyl group.
CONSTITUTION: A compound II is prepared by mixing a novel, pharmacologically active compound I with a mineral acid, and stirring the mixture under refluxing, thereby converting the (1-ethyl-2-pyrrolidinylidenamino)sulfonyl group of the compound I to aminosulfonyl group. Althrough the conversion of a sulfonyl to sulfonic acid is well known, the convension to aminosulfonyl group is novel. The raw material I is prepared by (1) reacting 2-methoxy-5-sulfamoylhippuric acid ester with an alkali metal alcoholate, (2) reacting the reacting product with an alkylated N-ethyl-2-pyrrolidinone, (3) hydrolyzing the product with an acid, and (4) reducing the hydrolyzate.
