Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a width to the linear luminous flux nearly rectangular to the weld line by picking up the radiation image of said luminous flux as well as to let the groove be automatically welded accurately by rotating the image pickup device at a fixed angle and picking up the image. CONSTITUTION:A width is given to the linear luminous flux 3' of a radiation device 4' so that the radiation area in base metals 1 is increased. In addition, an image pickup device 5' is rotated at a fixed angle about its optical axis to enable the picked up image of a high magnification to be obtained. The image plane of a high magnification is detected with good accuracy by the zero method which involves integrally moving the detector consisting of the radiation device 4' and image pickup device 5' and a welding torch so that the center of the groove comes to the center of the image plane. It is equally well to perform the proportional control involving fixing the detector and moving only the welding torch to the center of the groove.
