Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the layer changed in property by processing so as to give a specular surface having a crystal structure to that of the matrix in the electrolytic polishing of sendust material, by applying a voltage at a specific temp., using a mixed soln. comprising glycolic acid and sulfuric acid as an electrolytic soln.
CONSTITUTION: A sendust material is electrolytically polished by applying voltage to the sendust material using a mixed soln. comprising 40W60% by vol. glycolic acid and sulfuric acid as the electrolytic soln. at a temp. not higher than 25°C, pref., not higher than 10°C. For example, the current is nearly constant in the range of 40W60% glycolic acid concn., thus forming an electrolytic polishing region 3. At an electrolysis temp. 5°C, set voltge 25V, a voltage-current curve 7 and a voltage- surface roughness curve 8 are given. The roughness of the surface, which faces to the gap, of a sample electrolyzed in the range 3 is Rmax 200W300Å which is usable as the surface roughness. This method can be applied to the polishing of the magnetic head surface facing to the gap, thereby producing a magnetic head having improved high frequency characteristics.
