Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate deterioration in magnetic property due to mechanical deterioration caused during mechanical working by electropolishing a Sendust piece for the material of magnetic head core in an electrolyte made of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and glycerin.
CONSTITUTION: A Sendust piece whose surface is mechanically polished is dipped in an electrolyte composed of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and glycerin at a ratio of 1:1:1 for electropolishing. Even if the surface of a Sendust piece, for example, is electropolished by 1 μm with application of voltages ranging from V1 to V2 shown by a flat section in the curve A, the polished surface is resistant to roughness, maintaining smoothness. In this manner, the removal of layer affected by mechanical working and the forming can be performed without loss of magnetic characteristic inherent in Sendust, providing a magnetic head of high density and high performance at a higher accuracy and a higher yield.
