Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce mirror-dents and improve surface roughness by subjecting a metallic substrate of an Al alloy or the like to an anodizing treatment by using an electrolyte consisting essentially of NaOH and added with glycerol or arabitol as additives.
CONSTITUTION: An Al blank material is lathed, and is anodized by using an alkaline soln., after which the surface is worked with abrasives and is subjected to magnetic film sputtering, whereby a magnetic disc substrate is produced. In an alkaline anodization method as a substrate working method for such disc substrate, an electrolyte consisting basically of NaOH, and added with 1 kind of saponins such as glycerol, hederin, crystal violet and arabitol as additives is used. Then, the dissolution of intermetallic compds. and non-metallic compds. contained in the Al alloy is suppressed, micro-dents are reduced and the surface roughness is improved.
