Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the title additive capable of giving stable vermicular tough cast iron by covering the surface of Ca.Si based on Ca of relatively low graphite spheroidizing capacity with a little graphite spheroidizing agent. a little graphite spheroidizing inhibitor and a CaCl2 binder.
CONSTITUTION: One or more out of a rare earth metal chloride, MgCl2 and MgF2 having graphite spheroidizing capacity and one or more out of Bi, bismuth oxide, bismuth oxychloride, Al, AlCl3 and AlF3 inhibiting graphite spheroidizing are dissolved in an aq. soln. of CaCl2 or uniformly dispersion-suspended in the soln. in the form of fine powder. This soln. or suspension is mixed with Ca.Si particles and dried to obtain the title additive consisting of the Ca.Si particles coated with the graphite spheroidizing agent, the graphite spheroidizing inhibitor and the CaCl2. It is required to coat the agent and the inhibitor in a ratio of 1:9W9:1 by wt. and a total amt. of 1W25%.
