Abstract

PURPOSE:To form coating excellent in corrosion resistance on the surface of a metal, by treating the metal surface with an aq. soln. made by addn. of acid, alkali, or an oxidizing agent to an aq. soln. contg. molybdic acid, molybdate etc. CONSTITUTION:The treating soln. for metal surface is an aq. soln. made by addn. of 0.1-2% by wt. oxidizing agent such as an acid, e.g., sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid etc., an alkali, e.g., NaOH, NH4OH etc., or nitrate to an aq. soln. contg. 0.1- 1% by wt. molybdic acid, molybdate, or their derivatives. The treating soln. is highly reactive to the surfaces of iron or steel, an alloy of zinc etc., rusty iron or steel, and iron or steel coated with metal such as zinc, or lead at ordinary or high temp. Addn. of the oxidizing agent promotes the formation of coating, and forms stable molybdic acid cpd. on the metal surface, so that the metal surface is improved in appearance, corrosion resistance, and adhesive property. This method causes no trouble in disposal of waste water because it is treated in near neutrality by addn. of alkali, and is profitable because no heat source is required.
