Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the casting yield and sand recovery rate, by composing the coat layer with two layers of specified thicknesses, namely, the lower layer to prevent intrusion of hot metal of specific composition and the upper layer having release property of which principal component is artificial graphite.
CONSTITUTION: To form the lower layer (layer A), the refractory aqueous solution of refractory made from, by weight, MgO 50% or more, SiO2 30% or less, CaO 30% or less and Fe 1% or less being blended with a small quantity of binder is sprayed over the surface of sand mold by a thickness of 0.5W1.0mm. On this is sprayed an aqueous solution of mixture of artificial graphite and a small quantity of binder by a thickness of 0.5W1.0mm to form the upper layer (layer B). When hot metal is poured into this compound coat, MgO is sintered at 500W600°C in layer A, and this sintered layer prevents the hot metal from entering the sand mold. Layer B prevents the sintered layer on layer A from fixed on the casting surface of the product, so that the release property may be increased.
