Abstract
PURPOSE: To form an alloy layer having different characteristics in the specific part of a casting by fixing an alloy powder plate by means of foamed styrene or nails to the required part in the mold cavity and pouring molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A platelike body 25 made by warm pressing or spraying or coating the pastelike mixture of powder of alloy elements, oxides, carbides, nitrides, etc., a binder, and a solvent on a metal screen or blanked metal screen 24 is fixed onto foamed styrene 28 by means of nails 27 in the cavity 21 of a sand mold 26 for casting. Molten metal is poured through a cross gate 23 into this cavity 21. The foamed styrene 28 is burned by the molten metal but the alloy powder plate 25 is inserted by the poured molten metal, whereby, the alloy layer of superior characteristucs such as heat resistance and abrasion resistance is easily formed in the specific position of the casting.
