Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high purity and purity, by reacting an aromatic amine with an aromatic hydroxy compound in the presence of as a condensing agent and a solvent at the boiling point of the solvent or below in one step to separate the product readily.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic amine, e.g. p-amino-diphenylamine, is reacted with an aromatic dihydroxy compound, e.g. p-hydroxydiphenyl-amine, in the presence of a titanium compound, e.g. tetrapropoxytitanium, of the formula TiX4(X is alkoxy, aryloxy, halogen, etc.) or its mixture, in a solvent, e.g. benzene, at the boiling point of the solvent or below, e.g. room temperature, to give the objective compound of formula I (R and R' are substituents or H; formula II is aryl group; n is an positive integer). The compound of formula I (n is an odd or even number) can be readily prepared by making proper selection of the raw material.
EFFECT: Condensation at a relatively low temperature is advantageous to saving energy.
