Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the intergranular stress corrosion cracking resistance of a Ni alloy used as a fuel rod support spring material for a nuclear reactor by carrying out aging in at least two stages after soln. heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: As the above spring material used in warm water a Ni alloy is used consisting of C 0.05%, Cr 15.5%, Al 0.7%, Ti 2.5%, Nb 1.0%, Fe 7% and the balance Ni. This alloy is held at 950W1100°C for above 0.1hr to carry out soln. heat treatment. Next it is held at 800W900°C for above 1hr to uniformly precipitate M23C6 type metal carbides in the grains other than the grain boundaries. It is continuously held at 650W750°C for above 1hr to carry out aging. Since most of the metal carbides are precipitated beforehand, the amt. of M23C6 type carbides precipitated at the grain boundaries by this treatment is very little. Accordingly, intergranular stress corrosion cracking sensibility due to aging is minimized.
