Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the stress corrosion cracking resistance of an Ni-Cr-Fe alloy by raising the soln. heat treatment temp. of the alloy and aging the alloy at a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: "Inconel", an Ni alloy consisting of 0.05% C, 15.5% Cr, 0.7% Al, 2.5% Ti, 1.0% Nb, 0.7% Fe and the balance Ni is kept at 1,050W1,150°C which is above a conventional temp. for ≥0.1hr to carry out soln. heat treatment. The alloy is then kept at 650W750°C for ≥1hr to carry out aging, or it is subjected to the 1st step aging at 400W600°C for ≥1hr and the 2nd step aging at 650W750°C for ≥1hr. Thus, the stress corrosion cracking resistance of the Ni alloy is enhanced without deteriorating the strength.
