Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Alkali metal salt of cyclobranol succinic acid ester of formula (M is Na or K).
EXAMPLE: Sodium cyclobranyl succinate.
USE: Hydrophilic medicine having little toxicity and few side effects, and higher effect than known cyclobranol or its ferulic acid ester having a pharmacological action to balance an autonomic nerve.
PROCESS: Cyclobranol derived from rice bran oil is reacted with excess succinic anhydride in an organic solvent at 90W100°C for 3W4hr, and formed cyclobranol succinic acid ester is separated from the unreacted components. The separated ester is dissolved in methanol containing a small amount of ethyl ether, and an equivalent amount of NaOH or KOH which is dissolved in methanol is added to the solution to form an alkali metal salt of the succinic acid ester, from which the desired compound is obtained by distillation off of methanol.
