Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 2-substituted allyl alcohol of the Z-form or consisting of the Z- form as a chief component expressed by formula I (R is sec-butyl, iso-butyl, cyclopropyl, cyclohexyl, 2-phenylethyl or 2-ethylenedioxy-bornan-9-yl.
EXAMPLE: (Z)-5-(2-Ethylenedioxy-bornan-9-yl)-2-methyl-2-penten-1-ol.
USE: An intermediate for a medicine or a perfume, e.g. α-santalol.
PROCESS: For example, a 2-ethylenedioxy-9-bromobornane is reacted with Li, to prepare 9-lithio-2-ethylenedioxybornane, which is further reacted with 3,4-epoxy-3- methylbutene-1, to give (Z)-5-(2-ethylenedioxy-bornan-9-yl)-2-methyl-2-penten-1-ol expressed by formula II.
