Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure an easy and high-accuracy indication for the memory element containing the correctable error occurred in the normal action by installing both the coding circuit and the register to the memory circuit consisting of the memory element with the identification number added as well as to the memory device containing the error correction circuit.

CONSTITUTION: In memory circuit 3 the memory unit is set up arraying 2K×n units of memory elements bearing the identification numbers of 0W2K×n-1 in n units and in the bit direction, and the data and the error correction code are memorized with the constitution in which the memory unit is arranged in 2K units and in the word direction. And address register 4 holds the address to give an access to memory circuit 3. Error correction circuit 7 refers the output data of memory circuit 3 to detect the correctable error and then deliver the error correction data, error correctable error bit position data and the correctable error detection signal. Coding circuit 6 delivers the identification numbers of the memory element incorporating the correctable error bit with the error bit position data and the memory unit selection address as the input.
