CONSTITUTION: Steel is contained C;0.15W0.65%, Si;1.65W4.00% Mn<3.0%, Ni;0.40W1.5%, Cr;12.5W23.0% and Cr equivalent, shown in the following formula, is made less than +15%. Cr equivalent=Cr-40C-2Mn-4Ni+6Si+4Mo+8V+ 2W-40N or moreover, one or two kinds of (1/2W+Mo);0.30W2.5%, V;0.10W 1.50%, are contained and N content is regulated at less than 0.50%. Cr equivalent corrsponding to the necessary characteristics or micro structure for glass forming metal mold material, is fixed and controlling is carried out by the above Cr equivalent. The steel fodr glass forming metal mold excellent in oxidation resisting property at less than 700°C especially, not requiring Cr plating and also, having superior strength, Glauber's salt corrosion resisting property and mold separating property, is obtained.
