Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the crankshaft which is superior in impact characteristic and fatigue characteristic by molding the steel material containing slight amounts of V and Nb through striking forging at high tempertures then controlling the rate of cooling to make it to the pearlite+ferrite structure deposited with the fine carbides of Nb and V.
CONSTITUTION: Low alloy steel material containing C; 0.30W0.60%, Si; 0.10W 1.50%, Mn; 0.20W2.50% as well as one or two kinds of V<0.50% and Nb< 0.50% is heated at 1,000°C or more to soften the steel material and solid solutionize V and Nb. This is molded to a crankshaft by striking forging and the rate of cooling after this is controlled to 10W100°C/min. to let the fine carbides of V and Nb deposit evenly in the mixed structure of ferrite and pearlite. This method enables the saving of hardening and annealing treatments, reduces the production cost correspondingly and yields the product of superior impact characteristic and fatigue characteristic.
