Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool the mold approximately evenly from the top to bottom and improve the quality of casting by inserting water tubes by way of water feed pipes to the top part of the longitudinal holes pierced in the mold and providing pressure gauges and pressure control valves in the suitable positions of the water feed pipes.
CONSTITUTION: In the mold A consisting of graphite molds 1, 2, top block (A), bottom block (b) and both front rear blocks not illustrated, the molten metal (d) in a ladle C is automatically poured into the mold A by way of a pouring pipe 2 by pressure air. A plurality of longitudinal holes 3, 2 penetrating from the top to the bobbom of the molds 1, 2 are pierced in said molds and water tubes 5 are inserted therein from water feed pipes 4. Cooling water is dispersed in the respective circumferential directions from the nozzles 6 at the bottom end of the tubes 5 and falls by contacting the inside walls of the longitudinal holes 3, thereby cooling the molds 1, 2. Since pressure gauges 7 and pressure control valves 8 are provided in the suitable positions of the water feed pipes 4, the water flow may be increased or decreased through controlling of water pressure so that the temperatures of the molds 1, 2 are freely adjusted and the even cooling may be accomplished.
