Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a suitable amount of slag during welding of structures and form smooth and beatiful by beads selecting the relations between the ratios of the volume and surface area of grooves and the filling rates of slag forming agents into composite wires so as to come within a limited range.
CONSTITUTION: In electrogas arc welding of raw oil tanks or the like, the welding is done by so selecting the shape of grooves or composite wires that the relations between the ratio S/V of the volume V of grooves estimating the amount of deposited metal and the groove surface area S estimating the surface area of bead surfaces and the filling rate (y) of the slag forming agents in the composite wires come within the range sandwiched between y=S/V and y=2.5S/V shown in the figure. This method enables the obtaining of the thinly and evenly coated weld beads irrespective of the shape of grooves, the diameter of composite wires and facing material.
