Abstract

PURPOSE:To make hardened layers to an even thickness by encircling the upper part of an end face by a short-circuit coil by taking a suitable spacing from a hardening coil which opposes to the end face. CONSTITUTION:A circular hardening coil 2 is disposed in opposition to the material 1 to be hardened. Further, a short-circuit coil 3 encircling the material 1 is provided and a spacing from the hardening coil 2 is suitably taken. As a result of the above, the electric current flowing in the short-circuit coil 3 is opposite in the direction from the electric current in the hardening coil 2 and therefore the magnetic flux generated becomes opposite in the material. Hence, the hardened layer of an even thickness such as the one shown by oblique lines is obtained in the material 1. To automate the hardening, the hardening coil 2 becomes of hairpin type and the short-circuit coil 3 becomes similar hairpin type as well and the material moves between the hairpin coils while revolving.
