Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain light operations for engagement and disengagement of a friction clutch by employing a diaphragm spring for means for urging driving and driven members in the direction for frictional engagement with each other.
CONSTITUTION: In a free condition in which a push rod 8 is released, a pressure plate 16 is urged towards a driven side clutch housing 10 by means of a diaphragm spring 17 so that clutch plates 2, 11 inserted between the housing 10 and the pressure plate 16 are frictionally engaged with other. Accordingly, rotational force of a driving gear 4 is transmitted to the driven side clutch housing 10 through a driving side clutch housing 1 and the clutch plates 2, 11 so that an output shaft 6 is driven to rotate in integral relationship. If the push rod 8 is pushed rightwardly, a slider 13 is pushed thereby through a ball 15 and a receiver bolt 20 to slide within a slide guide 12 so that the pressure plate 16 is moved rightwardly against the urging force of the diaphragm spring 17, thus invalidating the pressing force amoung the clutch plates 2, 11 whereby frictional engagement thereamong is released. Thus, light operations for engagement and disengagement of the friction clutch can be attained thanks to a feature of a little load variation of a diaphragm spring.
