Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size and weight of an apparatus by mounting a pressure plate on a hub in such a manner as to rotate freely in one body, and interposing a return spring between the pressure plate and the hub. CONSTITUTION:When pressure oil is introduced from a hydraulic power source through a hub 11b into an oil pressure chamber 13, a piston 12 is slid to press a pressure plate 18 through a bearing 19. The pressure plate 18 is slid to a hub 15 against a return spring 20 to press friction plates 16, 17 to be engaged with each other, whereby a drum 14 and the hub 15 are rotated in one body to transmit power. When oil pressure in the oil pressure chamber 13 is discharged from the hole 11b, pressing force produced by the piston 12 is out, and the pressure plate 18 is pushed back by the return spring to release the engagement of the friction plates 16, 17. As the piston 12 is disposed on the fixed housing 11, it is possible to reduce the axial length of the drum 14 and make the drum small-sized.
