Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a sintered hard alloy having high hardness, superior wear and impact resistances, superior toughness and a low friction coefft. against steel products to be worked by sintering a solid soln. of (Mo.W)C as a hard phase with Co or Ni as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: In place of WC as the hard phase of a sintered hard alloy, Mo≥ 30wt% is added in the form of composite carbide (Mo.W)C. Carbonitride (Mo.W) CN may be used in place of the (Mo.W)C. When the composite carbide is represented by (Mox.Wy)C, the composition of (Mox.Wy)C in the alloy is not necessarily restricted to one kind, and two or more kinds of compositions can be combined to change the characteristics. Particles of the above-mentioned composite carbide or carbonitride of Mo and W are sintered with Fe, Ni, Co or the like as a binder. In friction against steel products to be worked, MoO3 is formed to reduce the friction resistance to 70% or less of the conventional value.
