Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic alloy for a magnetic head with superior wear resistance and magnetic characteristics by repeatedly rubbing the surface of an Ni-base Ni-Fe alloy which may contain Cr, Mo or other specified metal substituted for part of Ni to harden the alloy surface.
CONSTITUTION: An Ni-Fe alloy consisting of Ni 30W90% and the balance Fe is formed into a magnetic head or the like and repeatedly rubbed at a nonlubricating state in the essentially same direction at such a speed as can maintain a temp. rise at the recrystallization temp. or below while pressure contacting a contact piece to an alloy surface on which a magnetic tape is slide. The rubbed surface is hardened to enhance the wear resistance of the head. The above-mentioned Ni-Fe alloy may contain one or more among Cr<15%, Mo<10%, W<15%, Co<10%, Mn<10%, Cu<15%, Al<5%, V<7%, Ti<5%, Si<7%, Nb<10%, Ta<10% and Zr<5% substituted for part of Ni.
