Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the impact resistance of a malleable high carbon Co-Cr alloy with superior corrosion resistance and wear resistance by adding an alloy element such as Nb.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy consisting of Cr; 25W33%, W; 3W6%, Ni<5%, Mn<2%, Si<2%, C; 0.6W1.7%, Nb; 0.1W2%, and the balance Co. This alloy is obtd. by adding esp. Nb; 0.1W2% to a high carbon Co-Cr alloy which is superior in resistance to corrosion and wear but inferior in impact resistance in order to remarkably improve the toughness, esp. impact resistance. The Nb may be added in the form of an alloy contg. Ta. In addn. to the superior resistance to corrosion and wear, the impact resistance is improved, so this alloy is suitable for use as a material for steam turbine erosion shields, various bearings and shafts
