Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool reduced iron efficiently and to prevent the retention of adhered water in cooling the reduced iron by means of a rotary cooler, by spraying water to the charged product, and by supplying cooling gas from exhaust side.
CONSTITUTION: Reduced iron is charged from a rotary kiln through a shoot 1 to a rotary cooler 2, water it is cooled by spraying cooling water through spraying nozzles 3 equipped in the circumference of the cooler 3, and by forcing cooling gas through a blowing opening 10 equipped on the exhaust side. The evaporated water vapor and heated gas is delivered through a hood 4 to a heat exchanger 6, where it is cooled to form condensed water and cooled gas, the condensed water being circulated through a pit 12, a pump 13 to the above-described spray nozzles 3, the cooled gas being circulated once again through the blowing opening 10 to the rotary cooler 2. The cooling system is completely closed, so that its cooling efficiency is high because of direct cooling, whereby a product having little water is obtained, in addition, heat is recovered, and equipment cost and operation cost are reduced.
