PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of inspection and make possible the inspection of surface flaws, etc. of a steel plate by providing mutually synchronously vibrating reflecting mirrors and optical members focusing at the reflecting mirrors in the optical path of radiated light and reflected light. CONSTITUTION:After the luminous flux radiated to a reflecting mirror 3 from a light source 2 is vibrated within the vibration angle of the reflecting mirror 3, it scans the object 1 to be inspected in its width direction while it is being converted by the optical members such as convex lens 4 to the luminous flux which assumes always a fixed angle theta to the object 1 to be inspected. The reflected light from the object 1 to be inspected is condensed by the reflecting mirror 6 vibrating synchronously with the reflecting mirror 3 by optical members such as convex lens 5, after which it is condensed without any leakage to a photoelectric transducer 8 by the reflecting mirror 6. By making the incident angle of the radiated light constant and condensing the same to the reflecting mirror 6 in this way, the improvement in the accuracy of inspection and the inspection of the surface of steel plates, etc. are made possible.
