Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as an antitussive, etc., in high yield, with a simple and economical process, by reacting 1-(2-phenyl-2-alkoxyethyl)-4- (halomethyl)-piperazine, etc. with a propiophenone derivative.
CONSTITUTION: The compound III is prepared by reacting a compound I (R is H, or alkyl; X ia halogen or OH) with a compound II (R1 is H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy), pref. in the presence of an organic solvent (e.g. alcohol, ether, aromatic hydrocarbon, etc.). The use of a reaction catalyst improves the yield of the compound III. The catalyst is either a basic catalyst (e.g. triethylamine) or a dehydration catalyst (e.g. dicyclohexylcarbodimide) depending upon whether the X of formula I is halogen or OH. The compound I is a novel compound, and can be prepared by reducing the reaction product of a compound IV and a halogenocarbonic acid alkyl ester.
