Abstract

CONSTITUTION: Main binding materials such as water galss, aluminum phosphate, clay and bentonite and auxiliary binding materials such as boric acid, potassium permanganate and Al metal powder are added to the base material composed of hollow spherical materials such as shirasu balloons and fly ash or comprising mixing these materials in diatomaceous earth, talc, graphite, etc. and these are kneaded with water. When the resultant facing material is sprayed onto the heated mold surface by a spray gun, the heat-insulating coating film is formed, whereby the rate of cooling of molten metal is lowered and the run is improved. Further, the thermal impact to the mold is eased, hence the durability is enhanced.
