Abstract

PURPOSE:To considerably enhance the durability of a sink roll for hot dipping and to enhance the quality, productivity, economical efficiency, etc. of products by forming a sprayed layer of a self-fluxing alloy of a WSi2-contg. specified compsn. on the roll surface followed by remelting. CONSTITUTION:A sprayed layer of a self-fluxing alloy of the following WSi2- cntg. compsn. is formed on the surface of sink roll 2 in molten metal bath 1: a heat resistant Ni-Cr-Co alloy; 100 pts. wt., silicon and boron; 1.5-4.5 pts. wt., and the self-fluxing alloy/WSi2; 5.5-6.5/1, pref. 6/1 by wt. The layer is formed to 0.8-1.7 mm in thickness by powder spraying or the like. This layer is then remelted at a temp. above the m.p. of the alloy to unify the whole molten layer. Thus, the layer is allowed to exhibit the effects as a protective layer to the utmost, resulting in considerably enhanced heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. The consumption of the roll is reduced to 1/3, and the productivity, economical efficiency, quality, etc. of products are enhanced.
