Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible inspection of defects such as roughness, uneven dye color and stain in the same process by irradiating a combined light on the surface of a sheet-shaped article such as sliced veneer for panels in such a manner that laser beam passes through the center of the white light. CONSTITUTION:White light passing through a condenser 2 from a white light source 1 such as halogen lamp is fully reflected on a dichroic mirror 3 while laser beam from the laser oscillator 4 is made to enter the dichroic mirror 3 via a reflection mirror 5. The position of the white light is adjusted so that passing through the mirror 3 the laser beam passes the center of the white light fully reflected at this point. The white light and the laser beam thus combined is irradiated on the surface of the sheet-shaped article 7 scanning reciprocally widthwise with respect thereto with a oscillation mirror 6 and the reflected light is inspected with photosensors 12 and 13. This allows the inspection for defects of roughness including flaws and cracks on the surface of the article at a high accuracy along with stains, discoloring and the like.
